Lyrics for Mercy

I wrote this tune with Jess Leary who is a great writer of more straight down the middle - kind of tunage. She co-wrote some huge hits, most notably Where The Green Grass Grows ( Tim McGraw) and Mi Vida Loca ( Pam Tillis)

She wanted to write a song for me, and so she had a skeleton of this started when I came over and the idea that it was about Mercy, something that just can't be written enough about. It flowed on from there, and of course what an honor to have such great singers help me render this in the studio (The McCrary Sisters, and A.J. Croce)

MERCY     Jess Leary/ Amelia White

I've been uptown I've been downtown, ragged from the wind and the street sounds Watch the old man begging for a few coins-everybody walks on by

Feel the heat from the grate of the subway, little sparrow wants a crumb on a cold day I'm cursing this dirty world with nothing good to say, trying to find forgiveness a thousand times a day

CHORUS

and it knocks me down, it's kicking/you're bringing me around -I'm begging for the sweet light of Jesus to lift me straight up into the clouds ..... Love and Mercy, Mercy now

Precious angel I am hard to love, I"ve chewed and swallowed too much bad stuff, you picked up my bitter heart from somewhere on this street I didn't have no love to loose when you reached out to me...

CHORUS
