AMELIA WHITE ( four Stars)
BEAUTIFUL and WILD
Caught somewhere between alternative Americana, dysfunctional folk and melody heaven, this album lives and breaths it's title. Richly produced by drummer-extraordinaire Marco Giovino at his new East Nashville Studios, this is a celestial distillation of innocence and experience.
White's quirky and well worn vocals add a laid-back liberation to the lyrical agony in the title track and in "Mercy". With the exception of the first track, the funky voodoo beat being as attention seeking as a first track has to be, the lingering asymmetry of the rest of the album is hypnotic.
White drips and oozes succulent appeal- familiar and new, instantly engaging with an offbeat intelligence. The last track "Rider Ghost" is appropriatley haunting and metabolises a feeling of loss when the whole thing is over. Cited as being influenced by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and significantly Neil Young, this is the fifth album by Amelia White, the native of Virginia and Boston; it is easily her best, and will be hard to beat.
